Auditing Aeronautical Meteorology (AAM)

Introduction

Adverse weather conditions such as heavy thunderstorms and strong wind shear can impact the safety of flight operations, and air traffic management.  However, timely and accurate meteorological information can enhance flight safety, and serve to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of flight operations. Therefore, it is vital that States ensure that there is effective safety oversight of their aviation meteorological service provider to meet ICAO requirements, and ensure quality weather products and services are provided to the aviation community.

Course Objectives

This five day (5 day) course provides an understanding of how the safety oversight of aviation meteorology fits into the overall State’s regulatory requirements, obligations and objectives.  It provides an understanding of auditing principles and practices in accordance with ISO 19011, and aviation best practices. During this course, explanations of the clauses of ISO 9001 will be provided in detail - as applied to aviation meteorology. This course will also examine the general requirements under ICAO Annex 3 and associated documents so as to help ensure that products and services provided to the aviation industry meet requirements.
